The purpose of Somos First-Gen is to create a support system for Hispanic first-generation students by giving them a space to connect with community members and other first-gen students, as well as learn important skills and knowledge needed for college.

Somos First-Gen is a community member led group and does not receive a consistent set amount of funding. Your donation, no matter how small or how big, will greatly help Somos First-Gen advance their purpose!

A first-generation student is anyone who has parents that did not obtain a college degree in the United States

Yes! We want to help all students, including those considering not attending college in Kansas. We can help connect you with the correct resources and people to help you achieve your college dreams!

Most of our events and resources are geared towards high school and undergraduate college students. However, no matter the grade you are in or your age, please reach out to us for any questions or suggestions you have.

No, Somos First-Gen is a community group and is not directly affiliated with an educational institution.

Attending Somos First-Gen is free! All our workshops, events, and meetings require no cost.

We normally host our events and meetings at the Evergreen Community Center & Library located at 2601 N Arkansas Ave. Wichita, KS 67204. In the event that we are meeting elsewhere everyone will be notified of this through our social media and through the advertising for the event.

Donation FAQs

All donations given to Somos First-Gen will go towards advancing the work that we do with students in the community.
This may look like:
Buying materials needed for monthly events (stationary items, office supplies, etc.)
Hosting social events for students that help grow and foster community among them
Purchasing give-away items for the students that helps create incentive
Marketing/branding expenses

The Neighboring Movement (TNM) is a 501c3 organization in Wichita, KS that works towards nurturing authentic, gifts-focused connections to foster neighbor-centered leadership. TNM is the fiscal sponsor of Somos First-Gen. The donations will be held by TNM and are available for Somos First-Gen expenses. 100% of all the donations will go towards Somos First-Gen.
